A word with Megan Park
Megan Park is known for her beautiful prints, bold colours and effotless silhouettes. We had a chat with her to find out her favourite pieces from the resort collection and her plans for this season.
Where are you going for your holidays?
Hmmm…I wish I could say somewhere exotic but sadly during the Xmas break while everyone is on the beach I am in the office working to have our Winter collection ready to be presented in Europe in January. Perhaps we will get down to the beach for a few days over the New Year to hang with friends.
We have just returned from a fantastic month long family holiday though where we spent time in Puglia ( Italy), London and Switzerland.
What will you be wearing on Christmas Day?
If the weather is nice in Victoria I will be wearing the Drift printed full length beach kaftan – a crazy riot of color and super comfy for a day of eating!!
What books will you be reading over the holidays?
‘Family Matters’ by Rohinton Mistry has been sitting unread for sometime now and as his book ‘ A Fine Balance’ is one of my all time favourite books I am hoping for the same pleasure in reading this.
‘Listening to Grasshoppers’ Arundhati Roy.
What is your favourite look from Resort 13?
Silk Elaborate beaded kaftan in the protea print. I am waiting to wear this possibly on New Years Eve down at the beach .
We are eagerly awaiting the delivery of your resort collection, what makes this collection different to your past collections?
I designed this collection to be a holiday ‘ no brainer ‘. We all want to take pieces away on holiday that require little effort – that have that throw on easy to wear/ easy to care nature. This is a collection that can mostly be hand washed and is perfect to throw on over a bikini or to wear poolside for drinks. I think it will appeal to the follower of MP as it is still of the same sensibility however as the price point is also so good I hope it will attract a new customer also.
Where do you get your inspiration when creating your prints?
We have an amazing in house print designer who began with us as an intern 3 years ago and now takes full charge of our print design work. We begin firstly with research which I set the tone and direction for. This in turn leads into her painting and sketching up ideas that later are edited to the ones I feel best project the mood and spirit I am wanting for the collection.
You constantly create prints and styles that women love to wear, what made you want to start your own label?
To be honest what began as a small concern of designing scarves and bags has grown year upon year and sometimes I am amazed at what we now create – womenswear, a childrens and homewares line, a jewellery line and now a resort line. I find it hard to say no!! I love to create and the biggest buzz for me comes when I feel we have done it well. I cannot imagine doing anything else. My love of India is also a real draw card. I still work with the same people we began with 15 plus years ago and the relationships we share also make it very special for me.
New resort collection in store now.
