Gucci has taken on many iterations since its beginnings as an equestrian-inflected line of leather goods in 1921, however, Italian craftsmanship has always been at the heart of the label. Guccio Gucci was initially inspired by the elegance of the guests who graced London’s Savoy Hotel, where he worked as a lift operator.
In recent years, Creative Director Alessandro Michele has taken cues from the house’s archives – including the iconic double G logo and green and red stripes – infusing them with a streetwear aesthetic and a ‘more is more’ approach that is reminiscent of both Italian Renaissance and punk aesthetics.
