We have been obsessed with Los Angeles brand SLVRLAKE's expertly crafted denim since we received our first collection in store five years ago so we were thrilled to be able to ask co-founder, Louise Edgley a few questions recently. Here we discuss denim styling, sustainability, must-visit places in LA and so much more…

Read our conversation below and discover the latest styles to arrive from
SLVRLAKE both in store and online.

SO Team xx

How did the SLVRLAKE brand come to be?

Gary (Louise's husband and SLVRLAKE co-founder) and I have spent the entirety of our careers in both the contemporary and designer fashion space in which we gained an eye for quality and craftmanship.

We didn’t feel that the offering within the premium denim space was very premium. SLVRLAKE was born from a desire to create pieces that transcended seasons and trends, crafted from the highest quality fabrics, built to stand the test of time.

We launched our first collection with just 3 keys styles, all which remain in the collection today which is testament to what we set out to create.

SLVRLAKE styles are made in LA  – can you talk us through that decision and how the process flows from design to production?

Denim is the fabric of California and Los Angeles is the home to generations old artisans and ateliers. We work with only the best in their field and 100% of our production is within just a couple of mile radius from our studio, we touch every step of the process ensuring best fit and the highest quality finished garment.

Where do you source inspiration for your collections and new jean cuts?

Much of our inspiration comes from travel and everyday interactions, through art, music, emerging subcultures.

Our wash development and colors are inspired by the Californian landscape, desert shades and sundrenched wash’s.

Who are your ultimate denim style muses?

We tend to be most inspired by periods in time. The 70s – 90s were a great period for denim.

What is your favorite way to style SLVRLAKE denim?

Nothing beats a white tee and jeans, a sandal or boot for day and add a pair of heels and lipstick to take you into the evening…

Tips for anyone looking to find a different jean cut from what they usually wear?

You don’t need to jump into the deep end of a trend. Instead stay true to your own personal style.

I think a great way to try new styles is to try the toe dip method… if you love a straight leg jean like our London but are looking to try something a little wider, Grace is a great option, the top block has a similar fit to London while the leg opening is a little wider. Alternatively if you love our Grace, Eva offers something wider or our Mica offers an alternative rise.

We have seen so many jean cuts in recent years – from skinny to wide leg and ultra-high to low waisted. Which styles do you see coming to the forefront in the future?

Put your new denim to work for the ultimate lived in look. Vintage washes are back!

The topic of sustainability is so important within the denim world – how do you approach sustainability at SLVRLAKE?

SLVRLAKE was born from the desire to develop collections that would withstand the test of time. Jeans that you will love now and forever.

The only way to develop the highest quality jean is through the best fit and fabric.
Our collection consists of 3 key fabrics; GOTS Organic, Regenerative, and Hemp Italian fabrics.

Our hardware is 100% recycled material as well as our labels and hangtags.
Having 100% of our production in LA also gives us the highest level of control over our supply chain.

Where are your must visit places in LA?

El Matador beach, is off the beaten track with the most beautiful sunsets. Stop by Broad Street Oyster for a lobster roll lunch. Wearing your London Short and Square tee of course

Your favorite places to escape to outside of LA?

Hire a vintage car and head out to desert and explore  Joshua Tree, Palm Desert to Salton Sea… Enjoy the great outdoors, share wine with friends under the starry skies and  enjoy the wealth of vintage shopping,

Don’t forget to pack your sundrenched Grace jeans in Pale Khaki.

What can we look forward to seeing from SLVRLAKE in the future?

Launching into new categories, broadening the SLVRLAKE wardrobe which always pairs back to the perfect jean.
